Primary students at York Campus braved the cold and drizzle to participate in the annual RSPB Birdwatch event. This annual census enables the charity to monitor native bird numbers to see which species are thriving, and which are in decline. During their Birdwatch, Years 5 and 6 saw a Treecreeper, a mixed flock of Siskin and Greenfinch, along with Black-Headed and Herring Gulls as well as Blackbirds, Robin, Carrion Crow, Magpie and Chaffinch. Mr Taylor, a volunteer with the RSPB, was impressed by the observation skills of the children and their concentration during the Birdwatch.
Year 5 keep the birdfeeders topped up throughout the year in order to encourage birds to visit the grounds.
